Project type
Exhibition
Location
Hong Kong
The Sino Group's exhibition titled "Photographs from the 1950s: Marjorie Doggett's Singapore, Lee Fook Chee's Hong Kong" featured the works of two photographers capturing the transformation of two major Asian cities in the same era.
The two photographers and their respective cities were:
Marjorie Doggett: Documented Singapore through her work as a pioneer female photographer and conservationist after moving there from England in 1947. Her photographs often focused on architectural preservation and the changing urban landscape.
Lee Fook Chee: Photographed Hong Kong in the 1950s after immigrating from Singapore that same year, earning a living by selling photos to tourists. His images captured everyday life and street scenes, providing a vivid time capsule of the city's significant changes during that decade.
The exhibition was held as part of Sino Group's 50th-anniversary celebrations and showcased the parallel timelines and rich shared history between the two cities. It was curated by the Photographic Heritage Foundation.
